Say Yes To This Dress. Victoria Victoria Beckham SS13

The Victoria line has always been my true favourite from Queen V, and this collection did not disappoint (I’m not just saying this because there were heels this time). Although she explored other avenues with her VB collection, VVB stays true to the classic frockerella Beckham style.

Dresses. Dresses with the most beautiful subtle prints that brought Jonathan Saunders and Dries van Noten to mind. Of course there were sporty moments, but cut-outs and military were also explored.

The tight silhouette of the dresses was evened out with oversized resin bangles and very chunky flatforms. I have so much love for this collection. I hope you feel it too.

New Directions: Victoria Beckham SS13

In a very unexpected yet perfectly timed turn of events, Victoria Beckham has relaxed her clothes. Gone are the days of sharp body-con dresses. Queen V has taken her tight crisp/sporty aesthetic and applied it to a slightly more relaxed, more flutter-in-the-breeze feel.

But don’t go assuming Victoria has lost touch with what makes her her. No, this collection is still clearly Beckham – and that’s what makes it so brilliant, proving once again that Viccy B is the real thing.

Hilights include sheer pleats at the bottom of skirts, that jacket with the zip-away middle (LOVE!), and the emphasis on the bra in her final dresses.

Yes, Victoria has changed. Nowhere else in the collection is this as evident as in the shoes which were… wait for it… flats! Flats from Beckham? How can that be? Well, like all the new territories she explored this season, even the flats (by Manolo Blahnic) seemed to work perfectly. I mean, who better to take advice from about how to wear flats than the queen of heels herself?

Gaga and Victoria: Video Girls

The above pictures represent the two fashion videos you simply must watch this week.

Click HERE to see US VOGUE’s behind the scenes video of their September Lady Gaga cover. You’ll love watching her bring the most dramatic AW12 collections (Marc Jacobs above and Alexander McQueen below) to life.

And HERE to see the Spice Girls perform at the Olympics closing ceremony. Victoria Beckham is by far the most stylish spice – the trail on that dress only ads to her fierceness,

Enjoy.

50 Shades Of Fashion

So here’s the latest style buzz.

Lady Gaga released a new image for her perfume campaign which I’m really enjoying. I love the whole Zorro feel… That said, if you’re an American Horror Story fan, this is actually a little scary.

A label by the name of Marc New York Andrew Marc (which I’ve never heard of and has nothing to do with Marc Jacobs) have opted for a 50 Shades Of Grey theme for their fall campaign. You have to hand it to them, it’s a smart way to get press exposure. The whole thing got me thinking about which designers should reference which films in their campaigns. Here are some ideas:

Prada: The Hobbit.

Alexander McQueen: The Dark Knight Rises.

Meadham Kirchhoff: Any Afrikaans movie.

Dior: Black Swan

Dolce & Gabbana: My Big Fat Greek Wedding

Stop the press! Victoria Beckham is guest editing the September issue of American Glamour (note: this sounds great when said out loud.) I don’t usually (read: ever) buy Glamour, but queen V may prove impossible to resist…

This next one (my favourite) she tweeted exclusively to her fans yesterday…

But the Beckhams didn’t stop there! David makes his return to mens magazines with the September cover of UK Esquire. If I had a Prada shoe for every Beckham cover this year…

And finally: US ELLE revealed their decision to put Katy Perry on their September cover yesterday. They’re up against the biggest Vogue ever (with a yet-to-be-revealed Gaga cover) and the Viccy Glamour… But this is one of the least boring covers I’ve seen from them in a while. Nice work.

So what does all this magazine mania mean, you may ask… Well, it means I will soon be bankrupt.

Victoria Wears Victoria Victoria

Okay. It’s been long enough since I blogged about the Beckhams and I can’t restrain myself anymore. This picture taken just before the Olympics and features David, Harper, and Queen V wearing a Victoria Victoria Beckham AW12 dress. It’s one thing to see this dress on the runway – we say how beautifully functional it is – but this is proof that the dress really DOES work. That swan collar is everything.

With NYFW not too far away, we can start getting excited for more from V. Here’s to that!

Fashion Now

This an exciting time of the year for fashion: he collections issues are coming up soon, new designer campaigns are being released, and more exciting celebrity covers are popping up everywhere. Here is a roundup of my favourite stories right now.

Okay, if I don’t stop blogging about the Beckhams for at least a month after this, you can shoot me. It turns out the Beckham covers UK ELLE released on Monday were in fact both newsstand covers… So you get a choice (yay!). The real subscribers’ is this one right here. I’m a sucker for covers with really cool writing on like this – so I absolutely love it.

Meanwhile, Queen Victoria (totes going to start calling her that) was photographed for the June/July issue of German Interview by Angelo Pennetta. Styled by Beth Fenton, this shoot is all about Viccy reading a book. Simple and lovely. I wonder if she and David will keep a bookshelf with magazines they covered for their children…

In non-Beckham cover news we have Rihanna on the July cover of UK Esquire.

So this cover isn’t much about fashion (I don’t think those dog tags, or the other scant items they put her in for the rest of the shoot are going to change anyone’s life) but may I just say how perfect the SA ELLE editors was to put her on their June cover? Rihanna is definitely in right now.

Photographs by Matt Irwin.

Moving away from the cover and on to what you may find inside… The AW12 campaigns are slowly but surely being revealed. These are the ones that tickled my fancy…

Those legendary hats by Stephen Jones and Marc Jacobs for AW12 have finally been immortalised in this campaign shot, of course, by Juergen Teller.

And let’s not forget Marc’s new fragrance coming out soon called spot. The bottle is obviously inspired by a ladybug, one of the only bug I not only tolerate but actually like. Also shot by Juergen Teller, this one is definitely a winner!

Burberry takes us into a cinematic British fantasy. Shot by Mario Testino at the Royal Naval College in Easy London (not South Africa) starring Gabriella Wilde and Roo Panes, this campaign is nothing if not classic.

GOLD GOLD GOLD!

US VOGUE was kind enough to put a preview of one of their June issue editorials on their website. Country Strong features supermodel Karlie Kloss and some of the best male US Olympic athletes in what I think should go down as another VOGUE classic.

Styled by fashion director Tonne Goodman and photographed by Annie Leibovitz, here’s the shoot that inspired my very awesome new header.

Outfit Of The Day: Monday

You know those stories in magazines where they dress a girl in the same jacket for like a month? I don’t like them, but they’ve inspired this post. Every day this week I’ll be picking out an outfit that suits the day and the weather here in CT. Cool? Cool.

Monday – Victoria Beckham

It’s the day we’d all prefer to spend in bed. So although you’re probably tempted to throw on something soft and comforting that makes you feel like you’re in bed, I suggest something a little more structured to kick you (gently) into high gear for the week. And what better to do that than a structured (yet comfortable) dress by Victoria Beckham? It’s easy to throw on and doesn’t have any wild accessories that will blow away in the wind. And the best part? There’s not a speck of blue in sight.

Other options. (aka backup looks)

From left: Jonathan Saunders, Céline, Marc by Marc Jacobs (but only if you’re not gonna walk outside in the wind)

New York Collections AW12

The fall collections from New York were all extremely strong in their own right. Each one has something to get excited about. So here they are: the ten most exciting things from New York. And let’s not forget the creatives responsible…
