Past Meets Future: Alexander Wang SS13

And so begins my coverage of yet another fashion month. Tune in daily to get my edit of all the best Spring Summer 2013 outfits from New York, London, Milan, and Paris. One thing is for sure: it’s going to be a fashionable ride.

NYFW has been going for a few days now, but many editors from around the world have only just arrived in time to catch the really exciting shows. And speaking of exciting, Alexander Wang has kicked New York into high gear this season.

The whites that opened the show were minimal to the point of being almost clinical (something explored not too long ago by Miuccia for Prada menswear). This reference towards human kind at its most basic state leads us naturally to the cradle of our species. Africa gets acknowledged in the zebra-like way in which the shirts and skirts quite literally came undone at the seams.

And then we jump forward into the future: blacks, whites, metallics, (and those all-important gaps) work together to create what felt like SS3013 biker chicks. And finally, all the trends are pulled together in a white-out of beautiful separates that showcase all the above and more with some of the most intricate knitwear I’ve ever seen.

And here’s what the pictures can’t tell you: when all the models in their white outfits grouped together for the finale, the lights went out to reveal a very special secret. These clothes can glow in the dark.
